World Science Festival

The James Webb Space Telescope participated in the World Science Festival in New York City in June 2010. Northrop Grumman's full-scale model of the satellite was on display in Battery Park, and we had scientists on hand to answer questions and give talks, including project scientist and Nobel Laureate John Mather.

Here are some highlights from the event.

We have a time-lapse video of the construction of the full-scale model. The construction took 5 days - this video shows about 4.5 of that as we hit a maximum picture count.

We also have numerous photos of the construction on Flicker:

The model looked especially attractive lit up at night! Here is another time-lapse video:

James Webb's son (far left) visited and posed for pictures with Astronaut John Grunsfeld, Nobel Laureate (and project scientist) John Mather, Writer/Reporter Miles O'Brien, and scientist Heidi Hammel.

We especially liked this 3 shot High Dynamic Range (HDR) photo taken by Bobby Bradley.
